When I started writing my book about a year ago, I was kind of shy and scared to let anyone know. I wasn’t sure if I could do it or if I would really want to do it.
A few of my friends/family members know I’m writing a book and a few reactions I constantly get are, “What are you writing about?” , “Are you done with it yet?” , “When will you be done with it?”.
To their credit, I know they’re just wanting to know more information on what I’m doing, but to be honest, I don’t know when I’ll be done. How do I say (with out sounding rude), “Listen, I’m writing a Young Adult novel, I’m not sure what’s going to happen yet, I’m not sure if I’ll get it published, I’m not sure when I’ll be done…”
It’s exciting to share some of the world I’ve created with them, but I also want to protect it until I know it’s 100% ready.
Fellow writers, how do you all handle the questions from your loved ones? What do you say when they’re constantly wanting to know, “Are you done yet?”
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Until next time,
